Greve in Chianti è la capitale del Chiantishire, la contea dedita alla produzione del famoso vino tanto cara ai turisti anglofoni. La passione degli abitanti per il prodotto delle loro viti è ampiamente testimoniato dalla scultura del Gallo Nero simbolo del Chianti, che campeggia nel centro storico.

Passeggiando dalla piazza principale, a forma triangolare con al centro la statua di Verrazzano, alla bella chiesa di Santa Croce si può constatare come la cittadella abbia conservato sorprendente i tipici tratti medievali.

Da visitare la Chiesa della Propositura di Santa Croce dove all'interno si trovano l'affresco trecentesco con la Madonna col Bambino, già nel tabernacolo della antistante piazza del Mercatale, il trittico con Madonna e santi di Bicci di Lorenzo, l' Annunciazione di scuola fiorentina del XIV secolo, un Crocifisso ligneo del Trecento e il ciborio attribuito a Santi Buglioni., nonché la Pieve di San Domenico a Mugnana, la Pieve di San Leolino, la Pieve di San Cresci.
